Why We Love Abington

Lindo Realty Group Why We Love Abington Massachusetts - Family Walking Trails

by Renee Lindo (Read Renee’s agent bio. / Read Robbie’s agent bio.)

Thinking of moving? Abington has a lot to offer families. I was born and raised in Abington and Robbie moved here with me 20 years ago. We love the area and are raising our four kids (two girls and two boys) here too, first in a historic home, and more recently in a larger home we built close to my family.

Abington Schools

Our kids have attended both Beaverbrook and Woodsdale Elementary Schools. We currently have two children at Abington Middle School and two at Abington High School, and I am a Parent Representative on both School Councils. So far, we have been pleased with the education our children have received through the Abington Public School System.

I am constantly impressed by how much it has changed and improved since I went to school here. Abington has state-of-the-art facilities, provides a challenging curriculum, and offers a wide variety of sports, clubs, and activities. It seems to be a progressive district, open to change and always looking for improvement. In my experience, the best part of the Abington Public School System has been the teachers. Abington is full of teachers that care about their students and are invested in their success. Our children have always been happy going to school in Abington, they have always felt supported, and they seem to be developing into confident, intelligent, caring, socially conscious individuals. It really doesn’t get much better than that!

Lindo Realty Group Why We Love Abington Massachusetts - Fishing

Favorite Family Activities in Abington

Some of our favorite, local things to do as a family are:

Fishing at Island Grove Park - When the kids were little we would spend summer mornings here. They attended swim lessons Monday through Friday and then stayed to swim, build sandcastles, and play with friends. Now that they are older, they will ask to get dropped off to meet up with friends so they can fish off the bridge, look for turtles, and occasionally kayak.

Abington High School Soccer Fields - Our kids love soccer and often meet up with friends to play on the new turf fields at the High School.

Trail Walks: Now more than ever, having some local spaces to get outside and walk is key! We like the Griffin Dairy Farm Trail, Ames Nowell State Park, and the Hanover Branch Rail Trail which starts in Abington.

Ice Cream: And we can’t forget going out for ice cream! Abington is home to Cream (our favorite spot for hard serve) and the Abington Dairy Queen (our favorite spot for soft serve…Blizzards!). Last year Robbie interviewed Lenora Cushing, one of the owners of Cream, for our Small Business Interview Series on Facebook. Check out Lenora's interview here.

Lindo Realty Group Why We Love Abington Massachusetts - Local Restaurants

Favorite Abington Restaurants

In recent months our family has ordered take out and reviewed several local restaurants. Check out these reviews and more local content on our Facebook page, @lindorealtygroup.

Highlights include:

Abington Depot: This is a Lindo favorite for many reasons: the sense of community at the Depot, football and a large selection of beer on tap at the bar, and of course their menu of steak tips (Rob’s favorite), burgers, pizza, wings, salads, and more!

Abington Ale House: The top notch food and service are favorites here. And during COVID they deliver quickly! Try the Backyard BBQ Family Meal Deal or the Sesame Teriyaki Noodle Bowls...they will not disappoint!

Sorelle Bar & Grille - We love their salads, pizzas, and amazing desserts! At this time, they also have a nice variety of delicious family-style take-out dinners. The portions at Sorelle are large enough to feed our family of six with leftovers for the next day. A win for sure!

Sarcastic Swine - This used to be a food truck, so they are pretty well known on the South Shore. They opened a fast-food restaurant that serves everything BBQ (ribs, brisket, mac & cheese, corn bread, tater tots, hush puppies, etc.). Must tries are—the Mac and Cow, Tipsy Pig, and Flaming Ginger. We are talking serious comfort food! Everyone in town raves about it and we love it too!

Yaz’s Table - This is easily one of Abington’s hottest breakfast/lunch spots. Yaz’s Table is known for their craft cocktails and beautifully plated, farm-to-table, Mediterranean style dishes. It’s hard to decide what to get here because everything looks and tastes so delicious. Do I want Butter Poached Lobster, Nutella Stuffed Banana Foster French Toast, or an Acai Banana Split Protein Bowl (even the healthy food
sounds decadent)? To drink, do I get an Egyptian Rose Petal Mimosa, Shake Your Bon Bon, or Espresso Bomb Martini? There are just so many options. Pro-tip: If you can’t decide between sweet or savory, go savory with a side of House Made Donut Holes...they are to die for.

If these highlights aren’t enough to convince you that Abington is right for you and your family, call us today to discuss which South Shore town will fit your lifestyle best.
